Cincinnati is a city located in the southwestern region of the U.S. state of Ohio, on the north bank of the Ohio River opposite Kentucky. Cincinnati is the third-largest city in Ohio and the 65th-largest city in the United States, with a population of 298,550 at the 2010 census. The Greater Cincinnati metropolitan area had a population of 2,172,191 in 2010 and ranks 28th largest in the United States. In 2005, Forbes magazine ranked Cincinnati as one of the 10 most livable cities in America. The city was founded by General Arthur St. Clair and John Cleves Symmes Jr. on February 7, 1788. It was named “Losantiville” by Symmes, after the French term for “the opposite of New York City.”
Today, Cincinnati is a thriving metropolis and is home to many large corporations including Procter & Gamble, The Kroger Company, Macy’s, Inc., and GE Aviation. The city boasts a diverse economy with 11 Fortune 500 companies headquartered within its metropolitan area.
