In 1933, the first drive-in movie theatre debuted in Camden, New Jersey. Drive-in movie theatres are still around nearly 90 years later.

There’s something about viewing a movie on a big screen outside on a hot summer night with hundreds of other cars that appeal to many of us. Perhaps it’s the feeling of excitement or the strangeness of the experience itself that makes it so enjoyable.

Fortunately for those in Cincinnati, two outstanding drive-in theatres are still in operation in the city, and two more are located less than an hour away in Dayton.

We’ll give you the locations and a quick rundown of each of these four drive-in movie theatres in this post.

Holiday Auto Theater

Holiday Auto Cinema, located on the northeast side of Cincinnati near Hamilton, is a 60-year-old drive-in theatre noted for presenting the latest big-screen blockbusters. The theatre, which seats 600 people, is open in the spring, summer, and fall. They provide a snack bar with most of the typical movie theatre goodies such as popcorn, candies, sodas, and so on. The theatre allows pets as long as they are kept on a leash.

Starlite Drive-In

Starlite Drive-in is a drive-in theatre that has been around since 1947 and is noted for selling two movies for the price of one ticket. It’s in Amelia, which is on Cincinnati’s extreme east side.

They routinely play new releases that aren’t available in normal theatres, and they also have a snack and drink bar. For an extra $5, you can bring your food and drinks.

Dixie Twin Drive-In

Dixie Twin Drive-In is a drive-in movie theatre in Dayton known for having two big screens that play two movies per night. They also have a concession stand with a large selection of drinks and food, such as popcorn, pizza, cheeseburgers, hot dogs, soft pretzels, and more.

Chakeres Melody 49 Drive-In

Chakeres Melody 49 Drive-In is a drive-in theatre on the west side of Dayton in Brookville that also has two large screens and shows the latest movies out in standard cinemas. Their season runs from late spring to early fall, and they feature a concession counter where you can get drinks and classic cinema snacks like popcorn and hot dogs.
